Stunning come-from-behind win over Kingwood sends Deer tennis to Region III semis

When it comes to high school tennis, Tommy Heim has seen it all, lived it all.

Or so the veteran coach thought he had. But Tuesday afternoon, Heim’s list of experiences grew unexpectedly by one.

His Deer Park High School team tennis squad dramatically overcame an 8-2 deficit with strong play in singles to capture a super tense 10-9 Region III quarterfinal victory over Kingwood at the Baytown Sterling High School courts. Read more…

Team tennis squad could be stronger this season

Tommy Heim is as eager as any other Deer Park High School coach to try out the brand-new look to the district this school year.

But first the maroon and gold has to get there in one piece. Another rugged non-district slate awaits Heim’s squad and that gets going next Wednesday with a contest against Friendswood.

“We have a really tough preseason schedule. We’re playing Clear Brook, Clear Lake, some Fort Bend schools. Our first district match is Sept. 13 (La Porte), but district officially starts on Sept. 20. I think we should do pretty well in our district,” Heim said Monday morning. Read more…
